- Roy Joe KEMP Sr.(Jo Louise4, Charles3, Reubin2, Daniel1), a son of Jo Louise Boatright and Arthur Roy Kemp, was born on 6 September 1930 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, age 9, in his parents' household in the 1940 Emanuel County census. He also was named as a surviving son in his father's 1944 obituary and as a surviving half-brother in Alfred Coleman Kemp's 1948 obituary.
He married Ann LaJean Garrett on 6 June 1954 in Swainsboro. She was born on 28 February 1932, a daughter of Annie Waller and John Ace Garrett.
They had three children:
i. Lessie Katherine KEMP
ii. Roy Joe KEMP Jr.
iii. John Alfred KEMP
Roy graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. degree in Industrial Management in 1957. He was in the Air Force, 1949-1955, and served as a jet pilot in the Korean War and also as a Fighter Pilot Instructor. He was a mayor pro tem of Waynesboro, Virginia, in 1962. He was a supervisor with Dupont.
He died on 4 December 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was buried in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
